Jacaranda Ground which is famously known to be a ground for politics where most political battles are launched hosted sports for peace during the launch of Nairobi Peace Week. This alone changed the bad name it has been known for over long time and now the narratives changed from a battle ground to a peaceful ground after different partners spread out several peace messages to the entire community that attended the event as follows:
⦁ ACC Umoja Divison- He officially opened the event for sports tournament for peace. He sent greetings from the Embakasi DCC. He created awareness on the Inua Jamii program which aims at helping the aged, 70 years and above not leaving behind people with severe disabilities. He also informed people of the coming Elnino and told those people on the riparian land to move as it may end up tragically if at all they don’t move. He finally thanked MPI-KENYA in conjunction with other partners for bringing sports for peace tournament in Jacaranda. He also advised the youths to embrace sports in mitigating idleness.
⦁ Peace Committee Umoja Division
⦁ Moraa – She stated that she is the treasurer of the peace committee and welcomed everyone on board.
⦁ Evans- He said that he is the secretary of the peace committee. He added saying that Jacaranda grounds is known for causing tension and anarchy, battlefield for violence. He urged the youths not to be used by politicians to cause chaos.
⦁ Akendo- He stated that he is the chairman of the peace committee and urged the people to strive and have a peaceful declaration in Jacaranda. He stated that there is need to change the stereotype of Jacaranda as a hot bed of violence.
⦁ MPI-KENYA- A representative from the organization, Michael Oyier shared briefly what the organization does and the location of their offices. He stated that peace is paramount as nothing can run without peace.
⦁ Utawala Stars Sports Club- She introduced her organization and stated how powerful sports is in bringing cohesion and integration.
⦁ DFHRC- He stated that we should have a peaceful co-existence for purposes of mental well-being.
⦁ MOYOTE- She stated that they deal with teen mothers and empower them so as to be self- reliant in the community. She said that they were happy to join sports for peace.
⦁ Creative Generations- She stated that there is need of nurturing talents so that peace can be achieved.
⦁ Crime Si Poa- He elaborated their work and emphasized on people embracing peace so as to have a peaceful co-existence
⦁ AfriNov- A representative from the organization stated what they do and said they were happy to be part of the peace initiative.
⦁ Usalama Reforms – A representative from the organization stated the vital role they play as an organization. He stated that they try to bridge the gap between the police and the community by ensuring that each right of both parties are respected.
⦁ National Council of NGOs- She addressed how important peace is and asked everyone to protect it jealously
⦁ Ripples favour- A representative, Risper stated that she would like to see Jacaranda grounds baptized from cases of violence and causing anarchy.
