Commemorating the International Day of Girl Child

This event took place on the 11th of October, 2023 at together the adolescents, teen mothers, different organizations, different primary schools within Mathare, refugees and migrants. to include those of refugees, migrants, to commemorate the International Day of Girl Child 2023. MPI-KENYA mobilized 69 refugees and migrants aged between 18- 24 years.

The theme for this year was ‘‘Invest in Girls’ Rights: Our Leadership,Our well-being’’ Therefore, in line with the theme different activities took place on 11th October, 2023 at Undugu grounds in Mathare constituency and also during the build up activities. There were intense mentorship sessions of 2 days as build-up activities. The purpose of the mentorship sessions was for the girls to learn more on safe sex, safe people they may engage with in terms of problem sharing. The purpose of commemorating the day was to advocate for the full spectrum of girls’ rights. The day was marked with different activities to include: talks on SRHR, distribution of sanitary towels, panties and sharing of refreshments.

As a result of the event the following outcomes were achieved: Sufficient information on SRHR, the organizations promised to continue investing in girls leadership by creating platforms for girls to raise their voices at every level of policy- making, directly resourcing girls’ movements and networks and centering girls’ voices, agency and leadership in all programs.
